Blurb :

Help ghosts, stop a thief, and try not to die…
Necromancer Selene Vanream helps ghosts settle their affairs so they can move on. But when breaking the rules gets her in trouble, she’s bumped down to tracking ghosts trying to avoid the afterlife. Ghosts like Ethan Lance, who claims he was kicked out of his body when someone else jumped in. Which might be plausible—if such a thing were possible. And if Micah, Selene’s partner, didn’t pull her into an investigation of brutal murders that lead directly back to Ethan.

But when the whole mess puts Selene’s life in danger, she suddenly has very personal reasons to get Ethan’s body back. Between her uncomfortable relationship with Micah, and problems with her boss, Selene learns just how much trouble it can be when you don’t follow the rules…

Review:

So have you ever had “one of those days”?  You know the ones that make you thing you should go back to bed and start over…or maybe just stay in bed.  After you read this book, you will laugh at the things you thought gave you “those” days.

Selene is a necromancer who helps ghosts settle their unfinished business so they can pass on.  But she is a special kind of necromancer because she is also able to “raise” the dead.  This is something she has to hide because it’s rather illegal.  So she has a little ceremony she uses to pull off that power for the “random” checks, but something went a little wrong this time and now she’s stuck with the ghost.  Only Ethan isn’t really a ghost, right?

And if that isn’t enough to deal with, she’s having an affair with Andrew, her boss, and working with her worst enemy, Micah…well, maybe he’s her worst enemy, maybe not.  And someone is going around murdering people as a ghost but not a ghost.  Micah and Selene have to find Ethan’s body and return his spirit, find out who is killing people, and live to tell the tale.  For two necromancers who help ghosts pass on daily in their job, this should be a piece of cake.  Of course, a piece of cake isn’t so easy if you have never baked before. ;)

This story is hysterical.  I laughed out loud, and I don’t do that very often.  I loved the sarcastic, rule bending-to-the-point-of-breaking, tough talking, softie Selene.  She is my kind of heroine.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds.
